Efficiency of temporal sensor data compression methods to reduce LoRa-based sensor node energy consumption

Purpose Minimizing the energy consumption in a wireless sensor node is important for lengthening lifetime of battery. Radio transmission most energy-consuming task node, and by compressing data online mode, it possible to reduce number periods. This study aims demonstrate that temporal compression methods present an effective method battery-powered node. Design/methodology/approach In this study, LoRa-based was evaluated measured. The experiments were conducted with different LoRaWAN rate parameters, without algorithms implemented compress mode. effect on overall Findings Energy measured spreading factors. significantly depends factor used. other significant factors affecting are measurement interval sleep mode current consumption. results show reducing LoRa Originality/value paper presents practical case simple algorithms.
